The Vega and agricultural tradition in Galera

The vega is part of Galera’s larder.
Farmland in the Galera river valley

The crops and irrigation channels show the relationship between water and food production in a landscape where irrigated land contrasts with the drier slopes. This stop brings together two aspects of this food culture: making the most of what each season provides and preserving part of the harvest for later. Bottling vegetables extends the presence of garden produce in the home kitchen, while almonds add another ingredient to the local repertoire.

Observe the landscape from the path: the plots, channels and succession of crops speak of a worked landscape. What reaches the table begins here, with decisions about irrigation, sowing, harvesting and the destination of each product.
