Intermediate Terrace Street
You are standing on a street in the ancient settlement, between two levels of houses.

The terrain meant that houses had to be built in tiers, and connections between the terraces had to be worked out. Beside the upper row of houses, the base of a staircase that connected with the terrace above is preserved. The roofs of the houses on the lower level were roughly at the height of this street, or somewhat higher, as the reconstructed house helps you understand.
Now look at the whole area with its inhabitants in mind: to get from one house to another, they did not cross a flat space, but a small network of paths, changes in level and stairways. The street helps explain how the slope of the hill was part of daily life at Castellón Alto.
